Beyond Skyline Sci-Fi Film Opens Friday!

With all the hype surrounding the new Star Wars sequel; The Last Jedi opening Friday, I didn't want this little gem to go unnoticed.

In case you haven't figured it out by now, I love Sci-Fi, B Movies. Especially, anything that Frank Grillo is in. Now keep in mind he has been in a lot of movies and not all are B Movies. I met Frank back in the early 2000's in NYC while showing my work in a small art gallery in Soho. He actually bought a Brooklyn Bridge painting from me. Anyway, he has a new film coming out this Friday and it looks cool.

As you probably figured, Beyond Skyline is a follow up sequel to the the 2010 Sci-Fi flick Skyline. The first one was entertaining and this looks even better. Check out the trailer below.

SPOILER ALERT!
Here's an early review if you want to read about it, but overall it sounds pretty entertaining and frankly that is what this type of movie is about. Read the review here.

Live Action Alita: Battle Angel Trailer

This is the first live action film version of Alita: Battle Angel based on the original Comic book (Manga Series) created by Yukito Kishiro in 1990's seen below.

The Manga was later developed into an Anime series (below) released in 1993.

It is still a pretty awesome story for more than 20 years old. Now with current technology, anime and manga come to life.

Visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY) create a groundbreaking new heroine in ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an action-packed story of hope, love and empowerment. Set several centuries in the future, the abandoned Alita (Rosa Salazar) is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic. When Alita awakens she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in.

Everything is new to Alita, every experience a first. As she learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield Alita from her mysterious past while her street-smart new friend, Hugo (Keean Johnson), offers instead to help trigger her memories. A growing affection develops between the two until deadly forces come after Alita and threaten her newfound relationships. It is then that Alita discovers she has extraordinary fighting abilities that could be used to save the friends and family she’s grown to love.

Determined to uncover the truth behind her origin, Alita sets out on a journey that will lead her to take on the injustices of this dark, corrupt world, and discover that one young woman can change the world in which she lives.

Ready Player One is loaded with Comic book, Anime and Video Game Characters!

Ready Player One is Steven Spielberg's 54th Movie that he's directed, and it looks amazing. There are a ton of familiar faces in just this one trailer, I can't even imagine what is to come.

Here is just a partial list of all of the comic book, video game and anime characters spotted this far:

The Iron Giant, Gundam, Chucky, Deathstroke, Joker and Harlequin, Ryu, Battletoads, Tracer from Overwatch, Lara Croft, Speed Racer, Batman, Back to the Future and more ...

From filmmaker Steven Spielberg comes the science fiction action adventure “Ready Player One,” based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name, which has become a worldwide phenomenon.

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

Spielberg directed the film from a screenplay by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline. The film was produced by Donald De Line, Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Dan Farah; with Adam Somner, Daniel Lupi, Chris deFaria and Bruce Berman serving as executive producers.

Altered Carbon cyberpunk series teaser

Altered Carbon is a 2002 hardboiled cyberpunk science fiction novel by Richard K. Morgan. Set some five hundred years in the future in a universe in which the United Nations Protectorate oversees a number of extrasolar planets settled by human beings, it features Takeshi Kovacs as a former U.N. elite soldier and a native of Harlan's World, a planet settled by a Japanese keiretsu with Eastern European labour.

A ten-episode TV adaptation by Netflix was announced in 2016. It will premiere on Netflix on February 2, 2018. It definitely looks like it has the right ingredients for some really cool sci-fi. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Wormholes Connect Black Holes

A century after wormholes were first theorized, scientists have posited that passages through space-time can be traversed using a special quantum connection between two black holes.

Wormholes can hypothetically serve as time machines or teleportation gateways to transport matter from one point in space to another, however the theory behind them means there is a fundamental problem of stability. MORE...

Extreme Close up of the moon with Nikon Coolpix P900 Camera

Nasa, JPL

Nikon just released its Nikon COOLPIX P900 Digital Camera with 83x Optical Zoom and Built-In Wi-Fi(Black) camera with a zoom so powerful, you can see craters on the moon's surface. The moon is roughly 239,000 miles from Earth.

You can see the actual craters on the moon's surface where it's been hit by asteroids and comets thanks to Nikon's 83 x zoom. It's so powerful you can even watch the moon move across the sky as Earth rotates, and the image is surprisingly stable for such an extreme zoom.

Check out the video below to see it for your own eyes. That is amazing, and it makes my telescope look like a child's toy. Surprisingly it is around the same price as my telescope.

The first teaser of the film; First Time, on the Alexei Leonov Spacewalk

Alexey Arkhipovich Leonov is a retired Soviet/Russian cosmonaut, Air Force Major general, writer and artist. On 18 March 1965, he became the first human to conduct extravehicular activity (EVA), exiting the capsule during the Voskhod 2 mission for a 12-minute spacewalk.

Yuri Bykov film about heroism of cosmic proportions. Attention to his new film "First Time" will be increased. Firstly, this is a new material for the director. Secondly, the theme for the Russian cinema is quite rare. Thirdly, I wonder what we'll see this time the Earth from space. She's always different.

The first teaser of the film - it's just a small sketch, a hint of what we will see in the final. What is clear is that the participation of the chief specialist on Russian blockbuster Timur Bekmambetov ensures the film "First Time" entertainment and audience interest. Then it all depends on the movie.

The film is based on real events. 50 years ago - March 18, 1965 - man first spacewalk. That man was a Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov. In 2015, the company began work on Bazelevs picture that tells in detail about this remarkable event.

The above graphic is from his website and he typically lays out a theme for each day. Some artists follow this and others don't. Below are my entries this year.
