YES, Finally! I can't tell you how many times I have passed an object in my home and said that looks like a ... Space ship, light saber, blaster, flying car etc... Finally someone has done the comparison of their final artwork and the inspiration behind it. Artist Eric Geusz takes ordinary objects and Sci-Fi's the hell out of them with his beautiful artwork.

Researchers at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory posted hundreds of declassified nuclear test footage on the channel over the past few months, with a new batch of 62 videos uploaded in mid-December.

A team of archivists and software engineers led by LLNL weapon physicist Greg Spriggs is working to find and digitize thousands of archival films before they completely decompose in storage.

Decades-old films show the sheer power of atomic explosions.

The morbidly awe-inspiring videos are currently on YouTube. Out of the 210 total blasts conducted between 1945 and 1962,  126 of them are comprised of footage taken of atmospheric tests. Since then, around 10,000 films have sat disintegrating in high-security vaults. As of March, the group has scanned and digitized 4,200 films, reanalyzed 400 to 500 of them, and around 750 have been declassified.

When these tests were ongoing, researchers analyzed the films to study how nuclear weapons are stored and, in the worst possible scenario, could be used in war. It being the 50s and all, the tools for measuring blast footage weren’t super accurate. Scientists enlarged the images from a single frame, projected them onto a grid, and measured the fireball and shockwave manually. Yep, they “eyeballed” it.

“It's just unbelievable how much energy's released,” Spriggs said in a press release. “We hope that we would never have to use a nuclear weapon ever again. I think that if we capture the history of this and show what the force of these weapons are and how much devastation they can wreak, then maybe people will be reluctant to use them.”

A new species of traversable wormhole has emerged, free of exotic material and full of potential for helping physicists resolve a baffling paradox about black holes.

Diving Into Wormholes

In their paper, “Diving Into Traversable Wormholes,” published in Fortschritte der Physik, Maldacena, Stanford and Yang consider a wormhole of the new kind that connects two black holes: a parent black hole and a daughter one formed from half of the Hawking radiation given off by the parent as it evaporates. The two systems are as entangled as they can be. Here, the fate of the older black hole’s information is clear: It worms its way out of the daughter black hole.

LUNAR won first place at CineSpace 2017 by Christian Stangl

This short film is dedicated to all people who believe in peaceful expansion of our borders.

In the year 1957 the cold war expands to space. The Soviet-Union sends Sputnik as the first man-made object into earth-orbit. 3 years later Yuri Gagarin enters space as the first man in space. The so called "Space Race" seems to be decided. But in 1961 President Kennedy promised to send American Astronauts to the Moon. The Apollo Project was born. A space ship had to be built that is strong enough to escape earth's gravitation, land on the moon and bring the crew safely back to earth.

Motion Designer Christian worked with his brother and Composer Wolfgang for 18 months on this short film. The foundation were thousands original NASA photographies, taken from the Astronauts during the Apollo Missions, which were released in September 2015. It is an animated collage using different techniques to bring the stills to life.
